NSF International
The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) was founded in 1944, is an non-governmental organization which independent, not for making profits. NSF is committed to standards draft, product testing and certification service work in the field of public health, safety, environmental protection, is an authority in the field of public health and safety.
NSF has multiple independent laboratories, can be proceeded physical performance and functional testing, chemical analysis, analysis of toxicology and microbiological test. NSF professionals including engineers, chemist, toxicologist, public health experts and computer scientists who have extensive experience in the field of public health, food safety, water quality and environmental aspects,NSF certification is recognitory by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Standards Council of Canada (SCC).
As a neutral third party, its accreditation for the United States and the international standard is approved and certified by 13 countries or industry authority such as ANSI, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, SCC…NSF is specify collaborating center of World Health Organization (WHO) in food safety and the safety of drinking water and processing.
NSF serve for 4000 companies and 8000 factories in 80 different countries, more than 25000 kinds of heating and ventilation products had through certification, more than 3500 environment management systems had registered, more than 20000 times of factory audit every years.
The significance of NSF certification is: NSF has good reputation in the industry and consumer groups; height regarded from national legislative bodies and government agencies; get whole world recognized; the following aspects is the collaborating center with WHO: water security and processing, food safety and indoor environment, etc. The products with NSF logo means that the product is confirmed in the following ways:
1.Can meet the ability to remove impurities which is note in the product manual.
2.Will not add pollution composition to the material which is make of the products.
3.Accord with the requirement of design and production technology.
4.Do not exist the defects of structure and the functional.
5.It is true about the advertisement of products, sample data and approval standards.
NSF authentication system make a big difference for the professional quarters, consumer and manufacturing unit. NSF is a third party monitor organization which is dependable, impersonal and independent by the approval public and government,The products that through NSF test mean it is really pass the rigid test and guaranteed for consumers. All participants have to be tested if you want to get the NSF certification, and a inspection/audit by another third party, when producing the products, manufacturers must In accordance with the standards of the public. The standard including product manufacturing related standard, material, design, process flow, etc.
At the same time,NSF compulsive require the company who want to print NSF logo on their products must obey every strict request of NSF.These requirement includes the test and assessment at the beginning and seasonal,or surprise inspection. If find the logo is misuse or the products do not conform to requirements,NSF maybe detain and seal up the products and warehouse goods, even will destroy unqualified products and pipe off this company. NSF represents the interests of all aspects, to control the behavior of industry, consumers and manufacturers, supervise practicable of policy implementation and certification authority.
Legislation and regulations
1.The safe drinking water act of United States Require all the products lead content in United States shall not exceed 8%; For faucet and other water delivery terminal equipment must conform to the NSF61 lead precipitation standards;43 states in US require products must pass the test of NSF standard 61 which contact with drinking water.
2.The US Plumbing Code: there are two main criteria: IPC (International Plumbing Code)and UPC (Uniform Plumbing Code). The standard specifies which products can be used and which must conform to the standard.
3.Give an example of plumbing code:
Faucet: ASME A112.18.1/CSA B125.1 and NSF-61/9.
Shower valve: ASSE 1016 or CAS B125
Copper tube: ASTM B88
Plastics pipes and fittings:NSF 14
